Women’s contribution to science highlighted

LAHORE:The Department of Chemistry at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) hosted an event on Monday to celebrate the International Day of Women in Science.

The event marked a powerful gathering of prominent educators, scientists, and students who honoured the remarkable contributions of women to science. Dr Iqra Muneer, the event's host, emphasised the ongoing efforts needed to promote gender equality in science and encouraged women to pursue their dreams without limitations.

UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Munir shared his thoughts on the importance of uplifting women in education and the science.

His address was followed by the presentation of souvenirs to the distinguished Guests of Honour, including Prof Dr Shazia Bashir, Vice Chancellor of Government College Women University Sialkot, Dr Asma Saeed, Chief Scientific Officer of PCSIR, Dr Amara Dar, Assistant Professor at the University of Punjab, and Dr Uzma Hira, Assistant Professor at the University of Punjab.

Prof Dr Shazia Bashir was recognised for her outstanding leadership in academia and her pioneering role as the first-ever female Director of the Institute of Physics and Vice Chancellor of Government College University Lahore. Dr Asma Saeed, an award-winning scientist with over 70 published research papers, was acknowledged for her contributions to food and biotechnology. Dr Uzma Hira, known for her innovative research in renewable energy materials, and Dr Amara Dar, a passionate advocate for women in STEM, were also celebrated for their inspiring work in the scientific community. Dr Farhat reiterated the importance of collaboration and innovation in advancing the field of science and empowering women.
