16 degree colleges in capital transformed into high-impact IT training institutes

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has converted 16 degree colleges in Islamabad into high-impact IT training institutes, aiming to equip students with modern technological skills. Federal Secretary for Education and Vocational Training, Mohiuddin Ahmad Wani, stated that graduates completing three to six-month IT courses will find it easier to secure employment.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, NAVTTC (National Vocational and Technical Training Commission), and top universities in Pakistan, the initiative focuses on providing cutting-edge IT training in previously underutilized degree colleges. Leading universities, including NUST, NUML, GIK, FAST, COMSATS, and NAVTTC, have partnered to offer specialized courses in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, and Blockchain.
In Islamabad the degree colleges, including ICG f6/2 and ICB G6/2 along with 14 others have been equipped with IT labs.According to Secretary Wani, the world is rapidly advancing towards AI, and these programs will prepare students for future job markets. The courses will be conducted by the country’s best universities, ensuring high-quality education and hands-on training. Graduates, particularly those with BS degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics, as well as students in their seventh semester, are eligible to enrol. Wani has highlighted the need to raise the quality of education in public sector institutions and promote EdTech and innovative interventions. He has also emphasized the importance of developing skills in emerging technologies to reduce unemployment and promote economic growth.
