Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has said the Akhuwat Foundation and personalities like Dr Amjad Saqib are a beacon of light amid the darkness.

Addressing a fundraising ceremony organised by the Akhuwat Foundation at the Governor House on Sunday, he said no one had been able to do the work in the 77 years of Pakistan’s history that Dr Saqib had done.

If the wealthy people spent only 10 per cent of their money on the needy, no poor would be left in the country, he remarked.

Akhuwat Foundation founder and chairman Dr Saqib and Karachi President Danish Aman were also present in the occasion. The governor said that by providing Rs300 billion, Dr Saqib had solved the problems of 30 million people. However the problems of 210 million people were still unsolved.

He stated that as behind every success there was a woman’s hand, Dr Saqib provided the first loan of Rs10,000 under the Akhuwat Foundation to a woman. He also stated that in the past two-and-a-half years, he had often heard that he was being removed. He remarked that he enjoyed hearing such rumours.

Tessori donated Rs2 million to the Akhuwat. Addressing the ceremony, Dr Saqib said the journey that started with Rs10,000 had now reached Rs3 trillion and benefitted six million families. He informed the event that the loan repayment ratio was 99 per cent.

The Akhuwat Foundation has 800 offices in 400 cities of the country and 8,000 workers serve there. Dr Saqib said there were only two branches of the Akhuwat Foundation in Karachi and he wanted to have 100 offices in the city.
