Timely prevention of facio-maxillary trauma stressed

LAHORE : Pakistan Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (PAOMS) organised the 15th Annual International Pakistan Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Conference at a local hotel here on Saturday.

The conference provided a platform for oral and maxillofacial surgeons, dentists, and other healthcare professionals to gather, share knowledge, and discuss the latest advancements and challenges in the field.

Past president CPSP and current senior vice president, College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP)/Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal was the chief guest on this occasion.

Addressing the conference, Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal said that facio-maxillary trauma and oral cancer is increasing day by day. It has become necessary to be aware of and take steps to prevent this. He further said that the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan is the largest institution of higher medical education in Pakistan. He gave a detailed presentation on the National and International updates of CPSP, with special reference to dental specialities including Orthodontics, Periodontology, Prosthodontics, Operative dentistry and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in public, private and armed forces institutions all over Pakistan.

He said that CPSP believes in mutual cooperation, partnership and equality with other countries. He said that CPSP on International forum is not a requested but rather a collaborator and partner with Royal Colleges. CPSP is going to set up a department of Artificial Intelligence very soon and are making their examination system online. He mentioned that at FJMU, the training of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery will be started with the approval of the syndicate by July 2025.

On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood also administered the oath to the members of the newly established Executive Council of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

PAOMS President Prof Riaz Ahmed Warraich appreciated the contributions of Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood and his dedication to promoting excellence in medical education and his commitment to the welfare of patients, which are truly commendable.

Conference secretary and chief organiser Prof. Dr. Asad Aizaz Chattha highlighted the importance of awareness and training of trainees on oral and maxillofacial diseases, including mouth cancer. This critical issue requires immediate attention, as oral and maxillofacial diseases can have a significant impact on an individual's quality of life and overall health.

This international event aimed to bring together oral and maxillofacial surgeons from around the world and Pakistan, students, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss pressing oral and maxillofacial surgery-related issues, surgical advancements in the field, and innovative solutions for our community.

Patron-in-Chief Prof. M Saeed, President Prof. Riaz Ahmed Waraich, Chairman Prof. Dr. Aqib Sohail, along with all the eminent maxillofacial surgeons and speakers from across the country and international speakers from 13 different countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Europe, and the Middle East participated in the event.

Prof Khalid Masood distributed the honorary souvenirs and history books to the international speakers, including the dignitaries of the PAOMS.
