PARACHINAR: Ten more bunkers were demolished in upper and lower parts of Kurram, bringing the total number of demolished structures to 48, an official said on Friday.

The official said that in accordance with the peace agreement, authorities continued demolishing bunkers in upper and lower parts of Kurram. Tehsildar Parachinar, Naseer Abbas, confirmed that 48 bunkers had been demolished

Meanwhile, 37 families, who had lost near and dear ones in terror incidents in Kurram district, were provided compensation cheques worth Rs37 million.

According to Shiraz Bacha, coordinator of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) for Kurram, the compensation cheques were distributed among the affected families. On November 21, 2024, the families of 37 people who lost lives in an attack on a convoy in Ochat Charkhel in Lower Kurram, received compensation cheques at a ceremony in Parachinar. Deputy Commissioner Kurram, Ashfaq Ahmed, distributed the cheques. Additional Deputy Commissioner Maqsood Khan stated that after completing the required documentation, all affected individuals would receive compensation. He said that those who suffered damage to their vehicles and belongings in the convoy attack would also be compensated. A survey of all affected persons, including those from the Bagan area, was underway, the official added. Kurram district has been facing a blockade for the past four and a half months, causing hardships for residents. Member Provincial Assembly Ali Hadi Irfani highlighted that overseas Pakistanis and students remained stranded in the area. He urged the government to reopen transportation routes and announce relief packages for the local population.
