Gilani’s support sought for HSA expansion in South Punjab
Islamabad:The Health Services Academy (HSA) is looking to expand its footprint in South Punjab by establishing an affiliate institute in Multan, offering skill-based medical technology courses for the region’s youth.
Vice Chancellor HSA, Prof. Shahzad Ali Khan, sought the support of Acting President and Chairman Senate Yousuf Raza Gilani for this initiative during a meeting in Islamabad, where the two discussed public health advancements and strategic collaborations.
Gilani welcomed the idea, stating that expanding HSA’s services to South Punjab would create educational and employment opportunities, particularly in healthcare technology, which has high demand both locally and internationally.
He emphasized that empowering the region’s youth with specialized training in public health and medical technology could significantly contribute to Pakistan’s healthcare sector.
During the meeting, the Senate Chairman also appreciated HSA’s role in conceptualizing and launching “Health and Wellness Centres,” calling it a vital step toward health promotion and disease prevention.
He stressed the importance of such initiatives in improving healthcare accessibility and raising public awareness about preventive care. Gillani further urged HSA to take a leading role in promoting healthy lifestyles and physical activity across Pakistan.
He underscored the need for sensitizing parliamentarians about modern public health management and innovative healthcare policies.
To achieve this, he recommended that HSA collaborate with the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) to facilitate informed policymaking in the healthcare sector. Acknowledging HSA’s contributions to public health education, Gilani commended Prof. Shahzad Ali Khan for enhancing academic quality and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
