KARAK: Three cops were martyred and six others sustained injuries when terrorists attacked the Bahaderkhel check-post in Banda Daud Shah tehsil, officials said on Thursday. They said the terrorists stormed the check-post late Wednesday night with heavy weapons. The cops retaliated, triggering an exchange of fire in which three cops embraced martyrdom, they said, adding the assailants managed to escape. The martyred policemen were identified as Constable Taimoor Hayat and drivers Adnan and Naqibullah. The injured personnel were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ), Karak, for treatment.
The funeral prayers for the fallen officers were offered at the Karak Police Lines, which was attended by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed, Regional Police Officer Kohat Abbas Majeed Marwat, Commissioner Kohat Mutasim Ballah, Deputy Commissioner Karak Shakeel Ahmed Jan, District Police Officer Karak Shahbaz Elahi, civil officers and the families of the martyrs.
Expressing condolences, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed lauded the bravery and commitment of the martyred policemen, vowing that their sacrifices would not be in vain. He also visited DHQ Karak to inquire about the health of injured personnel and later inspected the Bahaderkhel police check-post to assess the aftermath of the attack.
Meanwhile, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a police checkpoint.
