Opposition leaders demand that ‘oppression and fascism’ be ended in country

ISLAMABAD: The opposition parties have unanimously reiterated the position that the current government is unrepresentative and has been forcibly imposed on the people.

“Keeping in mind the public aspirations, the leaders present at the meeting agreed on demand for the resignation of the government and conduct of transparent elections under a free and impartial Election Commission in the country,” says a statement issued late Tuesday night, following their meeting.

The opposition leadership emphasised that new elections are the only way out of serious problems like political and economic instability, social unrest and terrorism. The opposition leaders also demanded that ‘oppression and fascism’ be ended in the country and that political prisoners be released immediately.

The meeting was held at the residence of NA ex-speaker Asad Qaiser here in which Mehmood Khan Achakzai, head of the Tehreek Tahafuz Aiyeen-e-Pakistan, JUIF’s Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of the Sunni Ittehad Council, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, head of the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, head of the Awam Pakistan party, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Shibli Faraz, Provincial President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakhtunkhwa, Junaid Akbar, and Akhunzada Hussain, were present.

The meeting discussed the overall political situation of the country in detail and covered the issues facing the homeland in detail. The PECA law was strongly condemned and its withdrawal was demanded. Along with this, there was a long discussion on the ongoing terrorism in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and concerns were expressed over it.

A sub-committee was also formed in this regard to decide on its action plan in the coming days and give it a complete and comprehensive form after consulting its leadership.
