PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Atif Khan’s meeting with Aoun Chaudhry has stirred controversy within the party, with several members expressing their disapproval in a WhatsApp group.
A senior PTI leader shared a picture of the meeting in the group, leading to criticism from various members, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Reacting promptly to the criticism, Atif Khan defended the meeting, dismissing allegations of secrecy. “This was not a secret meeting,” he clarified. “It took place in broad daylight,” he said.
Atif Khan explained that he was at the Islamabad Club for his routine walk when he happened to run into Aoun Chaudhry, and someone took their picture. His response appeared to ease tensions within the group, as several other PTI leaders agreed with his explanation, sources said.
Meanwhile, PTI central Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram while speaking to Geo News said that both PTI workers and leadership viewed the meeting unfavourably. “Aoun Chaudhry had testified against our leader and his wife,” he added, referencing to the past tensions between the two figures.
