HAFIZABAD: Five people were killed in a fog-related accident at Jalalpur Bhattian on Sunday.Reportedly, seven people, including the driver, were on their way to Rawalpindi from Lahore to attend a wedding ceremony when their car rammed into a wall due to heavy fog. As a result, 22-year-old Allah Ditta, 24-year-old Qasim and three identified car riders killed on the spot while Irfan and Rashid were injured.

ANTI-ENCROACHMENT OPERATION: The district administration has launched a grand operation against encroachments under Suthra Punjab programme here.Deputy Commissioner Abdul Razzaq reviewed the cleanliness system, ongoing operation against encroachments and preparation of green-belts in different areas of the city. The district administration and the Municipal Committee conducted a grand operation against encroachments on Jalalpur Road, Qila Sahib Singh Bypass and other areas.

The deputy commissioner said that the parks of the city were being improved and on the other hand, the work of beautifying and decorating all the important roads of the city, green-belts, squares and other public places, had also been started.

ANTI-POLIO DRIVE: A five-day anti-polio campaign started here on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner Abdul Razzaq inaugurated the anti-polio campaign by administering polio vaccine to the children living in slums. DHO Dr Faiq Ali Tarar was also present on the occasion. During the five-day anti-polio campaign, 238,551 children upto the age of five years across the district would be vaccinated. The DC asked the people to cooperation with the teams to eradicate the disease.

The deputy commissioner directed the Health Department officers and polio teams that no child upto the age of five years should be left without taking polio vaccination. All teams should complete the target of vaccinating children against polio in their areas under the micro plan, he added.
