LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Saturday inaugurated a landmark project to solarise agricultural tubewells in Punjab.
Following the Kisan Card, Agri Mechanisation, and Agricultural Internship programmes, this initiative aims to ensure sustainable and cost-effective farming.
During the launch event, she conducted a draw, with Muhammad Nawaz Kankla from Attock being the first farmer selected for solarisation.
Officials briefed her that in the first phase, 8,000 tubewells across Punjab would be converted to solar energy through a lottery system. The chief minister was informed, “Farmers will save more than Rs10,000 per day and over Rs350,000 per month by switching to solar-powered tubewells.”
Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz hosted a luncheon at the Lahore Fort for defence attachés from 16 countries, including the United States, Russia, Germany, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Libya, Malaysia, the Maldives, Myanmar, Nigeria, Bulgaria, Rwanda, Tajikistan, and the Philippines. In her message on the World Interfaith Harmony Week, Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed Punjab’s commitment to religious tolerance and harmony. Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz paid tribute to the 18 young men martyred in the Kalat terrorist attack, reaffirming the nation’s resolve against terrorism.
