Power and gas utilities are facing immense pressure due to the growing circular debt, which is now in the trillions of rupees. This situation has made it difficult for utilities companies to recover their outstanding dues, which is necessary to maintain uninterrupted services. Rising electricity tariffs and prices have only made things worse, leading to further defaults and illegal connections.
It is unreasonable to expect the utilities to fix these deep-rooted problems on their own. It is suggested that the government should make efforts to address the circular debt issue and improve governance so that the sector can perform efficiently.
