MANSEHRA: The traders in Jabori took to the streets on Saturday to protest against the prolonged and unscheduled loadshedding in the Siran valley.
“Due to power outages on the Jabar electric feeder, the five union councils of Siran valley have severely been affected,” Abdul Wahid Khan, a traders’ leader told the protesters.
The demonstrators gathered at the main bazaar, chanting slogans in support of their demands.
“We have peacefully protested against the prolonged power outages in Jabori, Schain, Bugemung, Panjul, and Suma union councils,” Khan said.
He added that the business community was among the worst affected by the persistent electricity cuts.
“Jabori town serves as the gateway and commercial hub of the Siren Valley yet electricity remains suspended for most of the day,” Khan lamented.
The traders’ leader further stated that both commercial and domestic consumers were deprived of electricity for an entire day, three times a week, under the pretext of repairing transmission lines and trimming tree branches.
The protesters also formed a committee to take up the issue of prolonged power outages with senior officials of the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) and local lawmakers, urging them to play their role in resolving the crisis.
