Teenager drowns as police raid illegal gold mining
NOWSHERA: A teenager drowned when police conducted a raid on illegal gold mining in Kabul River at Mian Isa in the Misri Banda area of Nowshera.
The local residents said that the police conducted a raid on the miners involved in illegal gold mining in the Kabul River at Mian Isa in the Misri Banda area.
They said that upon seeing the police team, Ahmad, 14, a resident of Mian Isa, who was mining gold illegally, panicked and jumped into the river out of fear of being arrested. The teenager went missing soon after jumping into the river. Upon receiving information, the Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the spot and started searching for the missing youth.
However, he could not be recovered despite the passage of 24 hours since the incident occurred. The residents said that the teenager was swept away by the strong currents and disappeared.
It may be mentioned that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has issued multiple orders to ban and prevent illegal mining in the Kabul and Indus rivers.
