Kenyan diplomats meet TDAP officials to discuss expanding trade
KARACHI: Deputy High Commissioner of Kenya Daniel Nganda and Commercial Attache Bonface Njoroge Njuguna visited the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) headquarters in Karachi to engage in discussions aimed at expanding bilateral trade relations.
During the meeting with TDAP Secretary Sheryar Taj, key topics of discussion included Kenya’s high import duties on Pakistani rice and the hurdles facing the registration of pharmaceutical products. These issues are seen as significant barriers to trade, but both sides agreed on the potential for improvement.
The Kenyan delegation acknowledged the untapped trade potential between the two countries and pledged efforts to facilitate tariff concessions and resolve export barriers, which have hindered Pakistani businesses' access to the Kenyan market.
Taj highlighted Pakistan’s Look Africa Policy Initiative and the upcoming 5th Pakistan-Africa Trade Development Conference in Ethiopia, both of which are aimed at bolstering trade relations with African nations. TDAP also presented a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) designed to foster closer collaboration with the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA). Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing economic ties, with plans to work on the identified trade challenges and promote mutually beneficial growth.
