ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) will meet on February 10 for considering appointment of eight new judges to the Supreme Court.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had convened the JCP meeting on February 11. In a letter addressed to the JCP members, the commission’s secretary said that due to non-availability of some of the members, the JCP meeting would now be held on February 10 in the conference room of the Supreme Court at 2 pm.
It is pertinent to mention here that the five senior judges from the five high courts have been also summoned.
Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Thursday requested the Supreme Court to postpone the scheduled meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.
The LHCBA through its counsel Muhammad Waqar Rana filed a civil miscellaneous application (CMA) in its petition challenging the 26th Constitutional Amendment stating that the Constitutional Bench the other day had heard identical petitions against the amendment and had issued notices to the parties. It prayed the apex court to issue directives for postponement of the JCP meeting till the final decision of the petition and others as well.
