Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar on Thursday chaired a meeting to amend the laws to reform the fisheries sector of the province. The meeting discussed the introduction of positive amendments in every aspect of the existing rules and regulations for the Fishermen’s Cooperative Society (FCS).
The cooperation secretary provided a detailed briefing on the previous rules and regulations, the objectives of the necessary amendments, and other related matters.
Lanjar said the formulation and implementation of new rules and regulations, including positive amendments to the current rules and regulations of the FCS, is being initiated.
He mentioned that the tenure of the caretaker administrator would be at least six months, and new constituencies related to fishing areas would also be included in the amendments.
He said membership would be determined based on these new constituencies, and the registration period for each member would be three months. Two seats for women will be reserved in each of the 11 constituencies of the FCS, he added.
He ordered that a comprehensive draft of the amendments to the new rules and regulations for the FCS be prepared and sent as soon as possible for review and further necessary action.
Earlier, after considering suggestions and holding discussions, the meeting unanimously supported the necessary amendments to the rules and regulations of the FCS, calling them the need of the hour.
