HU starts excavation of ‘ancient city’

MANSEHRA: Hazara University has begun the excavation of the ancient city of Kunder Behdadi near Shinkiari to unearth its before Christ history and relics.

According to a press release, archaeologists from the university and the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have participated in the excavation.

It further stated that the history of Kunder Behdadi dates back to approximately 2,800 years, revealing traces of five ruling eras, including the British, Zoroastrian, Mughal, Hindu, and Islamic periods.

Archaeologists, along with students from Hazara University, have unearthed coins, utensils, pearls made from human and animal bones, skeletons, iron tools, and various other artefacts.

“The skeletons and bones, dating back 2,800 years, provide insight into the dietary and lifestyle habits of the inhabitants, including humans,” the press release added.

It further mentioned that excavation efforts have also uncovered structures that appear to have been workshops or workplaces, which archaeologists have also been analysing to determine the historical periods of human settlement.
