LAHORE : Punjab Traffic Police has intensified its crackdown on motorcyclists riding without helmets across the province.
Additional Inspector General (IG) Traffic Police, Mirza Farhan Baig, has directed all Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) and District Traffic Officers (DTOs) to strictly enforce helmet regulations. According to the Traffic Police spokesperson, a strict action plan has been put in place to ensure compliance with helmet laws. This month alone, motorcyclists riding without helmets have been fined over Rs980 million across Punjab. In Lahore, more than 16,000 challan tickets have been issued to violators. Under the current regulations, riding a motorcycle without a helmet carries a fine of Rs2,000 across the province. Additional IG Traffic Mirza Farhan Baig emphasized that action against helmet violations will continue without any discrimination. He urged citizens to adopt helmets as a safety measure rather than repeatedly paying heavy fines.
Body recovered from railway track
The body of an unidentified man was recovered from a railway track in the Mughalpura area near India Phatak, Garhi Shahu, on Wednesday. According to the Edhi Foundation spokesperson, the man reportedly fell onto the tracks and died on the spot. Upon receiving information, Railway Police reached the scene and shifted the body to the morgue via Edhi Ambulance for legal formalities.
Authorities have begun an investigation to determine the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding his death. Police are also exploring the possibility of an accident or suicide. Further legal action is underway.
Robbers’ gang busted
Kot Lakhpat Police has arrested a three-member gang involved in multiple robberies and violent assaults on citizens. The suspects, identified as Ali Hamza, Ahad, and Sohail, were apprehended with the help of CCTV footage, police officials confirmed.
According to the police spokesperson, the arrested criminals were habitual offenders with a history of robbery and violence. They had a notorious pattern of shooting victims after robbing them to prevent resistance or identification. The investigation revealed that the gang had been involved in over 12 robbery incidents, leaving at least five victims injured. Their most recent crime occurred nine days ago on Chand Rai Road, where they shot and injured a citizen named Shoaib after robbing him. CCTV footage captured the suspects fleeing the scene on a motorcycle, which eventually led to their identification and arrest. Police also recovered multiple stolen motorcycles and other valuables from their possession. Cases have been registered against the suspects, and further investigations are ongoing.
Killer arrested
Islampura Investigation police have arrested a fugitive murderer who had been on the run for a year after killing a man in front of his father.
According to police officials, the suspect, identified as Saddam, was apprehended using modern technology. He had been declared a wanted criminal in a murder case registered in Gujjarpura under relevant sections of the law. Police sources revealed that Saddam, along with his accomplices, had killed a man with the same name over a minor dispute.
