127m people to get clean water in Punjab
LAHORE : Comprehensive clean water projects are being prepared on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and clean water will be provided to 127 million people in Punjab, it was revealed in a briefing here on Thursday.
Parliamentary Secretary for Housing Barrister Sultan Mahmood Bajwa visited the Punjab Saaf Pani Authority head office here on Thursday.
Chairman Saaf Pani Authority Chaudhry Zahid Akram and Chief Executive Officer Syed Zahid Aziz welcomed him and the CEO briefed him on the clean water projects in Punjab. Saaf Pani Authority will become the first authority in Punjab to receive carbon credits, Sultan Mahmood Bajwa said, adding this year, the authority will receive 400 million in carbon credits and all the money received in carbon credits will be spent on clean water projects. The carbon credit project was in the final stages of approval by the international organization Vira, Chief Executive Officer Syed Zahid Aziz said and maintained that after approval, Saaf Pani Authority will sell carbon credits in the international market in partnership with Korean organisation ATR.
Sultan Mahmood Bajwa said more than two thousand inactive water filtration plants were being activated in Punjab. In the first phase, two hundred water filtration plants have been activated, he said and added out of the two hundred water filtration plants activated, 90 were located in Lahore Division.
