Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar on Wednesday visited the Central Police Office (CPO) to discuss the overall law and order situation in the province with Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon.

Lanjar emphasised that strict measures be enforced to curb aerial firing, and ironclad actions be taken against those involved in aerial firing. He also asked for the number of people who have been killed or injured due to aerial firing this year.

He said that a comprehensive report should be prepared by police stations and districts on this matter so that further necessary actions can be taken based on that report. He also discussed the security of Chinese nationals, and issued necessary instructions. He also visited the Safe City monitoring room established at the CPO, and reviewed the briefing provided by the Safe City director general regarding monitoring efforts and other important matters.

The DG said that 60 cameras, including automatic number-plate recognition and facial recognition cameras, are operational at 12 different sites, adding that the Safe City system is also connected to the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee.

Lanjar said he expects a positive response at every level regarding crime, including stolen and snatched vehicles, adding that he would personally monitor the positive and fruitful impact of the Safe City project in combating crime. IG Memon said the project was recently launched, and its positive response would be seen soon.

Lanjar later held a meeting to review the performance of the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) in protecting human rights and resolving various issues. SHRC Chairman Iqbal Dathu briefed the meeting on the performance of his department, including various references and details on the agenda.
