Serving justice

Another day goes by, another crime, but no accountability. Nowadays, violence, abuse, and injustice have become unfortunate routines in Pakistan. This alarming situation of rapid increase in crimes without accountability is an absolute indicator of a failing justice system. Safety and security are the fundamental and paramount necessities and rights of every citizen, which the government is obliged to provide. However, the audacity with which these crimes are openly and fearlessly committed leaves the citizens questioning the law-enforcement and legal systems. Despite the numerous incidents, the perpetrators often roam free on the streets, highlighting either the failure of the legal system or sheer negligence of the authorities.

It is said that ‘justice delayed is justice denied’; this is why the criminals act boldly, knowing there is little chance they will face law and order. While the laws exist, the issue lies in its lack of implementation. The sole system that is supposed to secure the citizens is broken, and people feel as if they live in a hopeless, vulnerable country with no laws. There must be swift and exemplary punishment for those who violate the laws, no matter their influence. Adequate and bold steps must be taken to enforce such laws because without such enforcement, no example is ever set nor justice truly served.
