I recently had a frustrating experience two weeks ago. I had parked my car along the side of GT Road, Islamabad, when an officer from the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) instructed me to move it. While I intended to comply, I mistakenly asked why no action was being taken against the fruit carts, Suzuki pickups, and taxis that regularly block half the road. Her response was unnecessarily harsh – she rudely told me to move the car or she would issue a challan.
As a senior citizen, I believe I deserved a more polite response. She could have calmly explained that the matter was being addressed. In the past, NHMP officers were known for their courteous behaviour (I have received two challans in earlier years, both issued very politely). I urge the NHMP to provide officers with proper training on how to interact respectfully with the people, as courteous behaviour goes a long way in maintaining trust and cooperation.
