LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired a special meeting on Tuesday to review the progress of Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar programme, which aims to provide free plots to homeless people in Punjab.

Various recommendations and proposals related to the programme were also discussed during the session. The chief minister directed a comprehensive review of three and five marla government housing schemes across the province.

The meeting decided to establish an eight-member committee tasked with finalising the Terms of Reference (TORs) for allocating free plots to the public. It was reported in the meeting that directives have been issued to expedite the development of 2,807 plots in 35 government housing schemes across 22 districts of Punjab. Additionally, the CM instructed the acceleration of development work on 1,119 plots in nine government housing schemes in seven districts.

The chief minister also assigned relevant stakeholders to complete 20,000 houses by February as part of the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar programme. She emphasised that the construction of 100,000 houses annually must be achieved under all circumstances. During the briefing, it was revealed that loans worth Rs8.2 billion have already been disbursed for the construction of 9,015 houses. Furthermore, 2,050 recipients have received second loan installments, and 4,841 houses are currently under construction under the programme.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz paid tribute to the security forces for neutralising five terrorists in the Gulistan area of Qilla Abdullah.
