I recently came across an advisory from the National Telecom and Information Technology Security Board (NTISB) about a wave of cyberattacks targeting popular AI and VPN extensions. It is concerning to see how even trusted applications can become potential risks to our privacy and security. The NTISB has recommended stopping the use of these apps temporarily and switching to safer alternatives. While this might seem inconvenient, the risks of ignoring such warnings – identity theft, financial fraud, or worse – are too significant to take lightly.
To protect ourselves, we need to take some simple steps, like keeping our apps updated, using good antivirus programmes, and being cautious about what permissions we give to these apps. Even small actions, like limiting access to location data or using secure websites, can make a big difference. Cybercriminals are getting smarter, and we need to stay ahead by being vigilant. This issue isn’t just about protecting data; it’s about safeguarding our entire digital lives. Let’s take these warnings seriously and do what we can to stay safe.
