Double standards
The US is trying hard to enable India to obtain membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). This will enable India to legally obtain items used in nuclear technology. The NSG is a group that stands for non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and promotes nuclear technology for civil uses. Its membership is open to those countries that have signed the NPT or the CTBT. India has signed neither of them. However, the US is promoting its membership against all principles.
Pakistan’s membership is being strongly opposed – a glaring example of double standards. Pakistan is paying the price for being the only Muslim nuclear country – and being an ally of China. India is already able to buy nuclear parts from NSG members like the US and UK on an exceptional basis. We must double our efforts now to ask China and other NSG member countries to either oppose India’s inclusion in NSG or admit Pakistan into the group as well.
