ISLAMABAD: With delay of almost 11 months, the government and the PTI finally reached an agreement on the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Friday, and Junaid Akbar of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was elected as the PAC chairman unopposed.
Chief whip of the PMLN Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Opposition leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub and Opposition leader in the Senate Shibli Faraz proposed the name of Junaid Akbar as the PAC chairman.
PAC members Riaz Fatiana, Malik Aamir Dogar, Wajiha Qamar, Sardar Muhammad Yusuf Khan and other members seconded Junaid Akbar Khan’s name.
Following his election, Junaid Akbar thanked the committee members for their trust and pledged to lead the PAC with full cooperation from all members.
He expressed his commitment to ensuring smooth functioning of the committee and reiterated his determination to work together with all members, who assured him of their complete support in his new role.
The committee members assured Junaid Akbar of all possible support in running the committee. PMLN chief whip said the government decided to give the PAC chairmanship to the opposition.
Earlier, the PTI had sent five names to the government for the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee.
PTI Chief Whip Aamir Dogar had sent a letter to PMLN Chief Whip Tariq Fazal Chaudhry in the National Assembly, in which five names were sent for the slot.
The names sent by the PTI included Junaid Akbar, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Omar Ayub Khan, Aamir Dogar, and Khawaja Shiraz Mahmood.
