KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has approved summary for the establishment of National Games’ secretariat at KMC-owned Kashmir Road Sports Complex but the Games organisers did not establish the secretariat yet to start the preparations for Games, ‘The News’ learnt on Friday.
The Games would be held in May and over 7,000 athletes from across the country will be participating in various disciplines. The provincial government has already approved the budget for Games as earlier the SOA cited it a reason behind delay in Games.
February would be the ideal month to start the preparations as holy Ramzan would be observed in March but due to lethargic attitude of the SOA, even the secretariat could not be established.
Thus, in March the preparations would not get any progress. A number of committees, for organizing the Games, and look after the athletes are yet to be established. The sources said that SOA General Secretary Ahmed Ali Rajpoot had contacted KMC sports department officials in this regard few days back. The Games have already been rescheduled due to one or other reason. Earlier Games were to be held in February, but later dates have been extended and the POA and SOA decided that Games would be held in May this year.
