25% tax on teachers’ salaries flayed
LAHORE:The UET Teaching Staff Association (TSA) has condemned the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) decision to impose a 25 percent tax deduction on the salaries of teachers and researchers.
In a meeting chaired by TSA President Dr Muhammad Shoaib, the Association demanded the immediate withdrawal of this notification. The TSA members expressed concerns over the negative impact this decision will have on the academic staff and researchers. Dr Shoaib emphasised that if the notification was not revoked, TSA would resort to peaceful protests. TSA's General Secretary, Dr Tanveer Qasim, termed the FBR’s move illegal and illogical.
He said that this decision would have serious financial repercussions, harming the economic interests of teachers and researchers. The meeting was attended by Dr Fahim Gohar Awan, Dr Usman, Dr Owais, Dr Shumaila, Dr Huda, Dr Rizwana, and Dr Rashid Jalil.
