ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is expected to represent Pakistan at the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025 at Davos, January 20-24.
“As of now, we can confirm that the finance minister will be attending the WEF to represent the government. Pakistan has been attending all WEF meetings in the past. Dates are being worked out for the minister,” a senior official told The News.
Cautious approach by the official was due to several changes being made for Pakistan’s participation in Davos and whether there would be others who would accompany the finance minister. So far, there has been no official announcement at a time when Aurangzeb has just returned home from Hong Kong, where he attended the Asian Financial Forum. This year sees the WEF taking up for consideration key global and regional challenges including stimulating growth to improve living standards, responding to geopolitical shocks, and stewarding a just, inclusive energy transition. Sixty heads of state and government including Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang will attend, with US President-elect Donald Trump joining virtually, as he returns to the global stage for the first time after he left office in 2021.
