Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi on Wednesday took strict notice of violations regarding official LPG prices and the sale of substandard and unsafe cylinders across the city.

In response, the administration announced a crackdown on retailers flouting official pricing and safety regulations for LPG.

The authorities were also committed to enforcing stringent safety codes to combat the sale of low-quality cylinders, ensuring both safety and standard compliance. The Hydrocarbon Institute would be consulted to facilitate inspections in this regard. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by the commissioner at his office.

It was resolved that relevant officers would carry out inspections in coordination with technical experts and representatives from the Hydrocarbon Institute. Among those attending the meeting were Deputy Commissioner Keamari Raja Tariq Chandio, Deputy Commissioner Korangi Masood Bhutto, Deputy Commissioner District East Abrar Jafar, SSP Traffic Police Dr Qamar Rizvi, Assistant Commissioner (Headquarters) Rabia Syed, Executive Officer OGRA Ghulam Mohammad Shaheen, and officers from the Civil Defence and Transport Departments.

In a bid to enhance safety, shopkeepers whose establishments were sealed for violating safety regulations would not be permitted to reopen until they pass inspection and comply with safety codes. Additionally, the meeting stressed the importance of increasing the number of OGRA-authorised distributors for LPG cylinder sales to improve monitoring and compliance. Deputy commissioners briefed the meeting on actions taken to curb the illegal sale of LPG cylinders in their respective districts. Deputy Commissioner Abrar Jafar reported that 109 illegal LPG-selling shops had been sealed in the East District, with similar actions reported in the Central, Korangi, Keamari, and Western districts.
