LAHORE : Pakistan is the first country where Haleon (Haleon is a British company) Pain Management Institute (HPMI) is being established in Lahore to support and educate both HCPs and patients in their journey toward effective pain management.
The Haleon Pain Management Institute (HPMI) is Haleon's pioneering initiative to advance the science and understanding of pain, with the ultimate goal of enhancing pain management strategies and improving patient outcomes. The institute is being established in collaboration with Haleon Pakistan chapter. HPMI is committed to addressing the unique healthcare challenges in Pakistan, particularly in under-resourced areas where access to specialised care is limited.
Pakistan was chosen as a strategic location for the launch of HPMI due to its unique position in the global healthcare landscape and its alignment with HPMI's mission. Pakistan faces a high prevalence of chronic pain conditions, with an estimated 40 percent of the adult population suffering from conditions such as back pain, arthritis, and migraines.
This highlights an urgent need for improved pain management solutions. There is a significant shortage of specialised pain management clinics in Pakistan, particularly in rural and underserved areas, making the availability of accessible, evidence-based pain management solutions a priority.
The HPMI aims to create awareness among healthcare professionals, pharmacists and end users to choose the right drug for specific pain. Pharmacists often serve as the first point of contact for patients experiencing pain due to limited access to healthcare professionals.
This underscores the importance of empowering pharmacists with the tools and knowledge to guide effective pain management.
