LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Labour and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar and squash legend Jahangir Khan distributed Sports Endowment Fund cheques among top performers of Inter-Provincial Quaid-i-Azam Games and other events at a ceremony held at the E-Library on Tuesday.
Some 13 athletes of different games were awarded scholarship cheques in three categories: Platinum Rs 70,000 per month, Gold Rs 50,000 per month and Silver Rs 30,000 per month while weightlifter/powerlifter Nooh Dastgir Butt was presented a cheque of Rs1million in a special category.
The minister on the occasion said the Sports Endowment Fund will be given every month for one year to get our athletes free from financial burden so that they can fully concentrate on their sports challenges.
Secretary Youth Affairs Muzaffar Khan Sial said the Fund will be distributed purely on merit among the talented athletes. Jahangir Khan also lauded the Fund cheque distribution measure of the Punjab government.
