Govt’s countdown may begin after Eid if ToRs not finalised: Siraj

LAHORE

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq said US drone attacks were a blatant failure of Pakistan’s foreign policy, sovereignty and self respect and had continued for over a decade despite huge public outcry and killings of tens of thousands of innocent civilians. He warned that continuation of US drone attacks any further would be taken as government's consent behind them.

Addressing an Iftar dinner hosted for the staff of JI headquarters, Mansoora, on Saturday, he said country’s foreign policy had been US slave for over a decade after a general at the helms of affairs made a historic surrender over a single phone call from the US. Siraj said it was high time the government should liberate its foreign policy from US slavery, and instead of devising it within the kitchen cabinet it should be tabled before the parliament and approved after complete debate.

Sirajul Haq said US President Obama’s announcement to extend the stay of US occupant forces in Afghanistan was highly condemnable and a serious threat to the regional peace and stability.

He recalled that US and Nato forces occupying Afghanistan had killed over a million Afghan people over the last fifteen years in the name of collateral damage, and extending the stay of occupant forces in Afghanistan would mean Obama wanted massacre of the Afghan people to continue for many years.

Siraj recalled that as a prelude to the decision, Obama had predicted a few days back that the South Asian region would continue to remain unstable for more than a decade. He said Obama should have announced total pullout of US forces from Afghanistan which was his electoral promise.

Siraj strongly condemned the US backing for India’s membership of Nuclear Supply Group (NSG) and warned that prejudicial treatment with one of the two nuclear neighbors would not only disturb the peace in the region but also promote the dangers of war and destruction in the region.

Siraj recalled that history of India was full of bloodshed of innocent people as it had been committing massacre in Kashmir for seven decades. Besides, the current Indian Prime Minister Mode had openly admitted his armed role in separation of East Pakistan and creating Bangladesh in its place with Indian orchestration. He said giving India the role of policeman in the region would bring dangerous results for the entire world.

Sirajul Haq lamented the delaying tactics in the setting up of a judicial commission to probe Panama leaks, and said if the Judicial Commission was not set up during the holy month of Ramazan, the countdown of the government would begin after Eidul Fitr. He said there were certain elements that wanted to delay the matter so that nobody could be punished for corruption or held accountable.

Sirajul Haq said there had been no headway on the ToR’s for the judicial commission because of the government’s delaying tactics and stubbornness and now not much time had been left with the government in this respect.

He said it would have been better for the rulers to present themselves for accountability during the sacred month of Ramazan, but the rulers were bent upon losing this opportunity as usual. JI information secretary Ameerul Azeem, Maulana Abdul Malik, Abdul Ghaffar Aziz, and others were also present.

The JI chief said that a ruthless accountability was the demand of the masses and not the political parties. He said the government attitude so far indicated that it was trying to avoid Ehtisab.

However, he said, if the government did not change its attitude, the volcano heating up in the public mood would erupt and nobody would be safe.

Meanwhile, addressing an Iftar party, JI Secretary General  Liaqat Baloch said the dooms day for the rulers and corrupt mafia was at hand. He said that corrupt elements in the government and the opposition would never support an effective system of accountability and the honest and patriotic masses would have to organise themselves for the purpose.

He further said that if the nation did not unite to face US threats after the recent drone attack, the country’s solidarity would be threatened and the US-India-Israel trio would attack every part of the country.

He said that the democratic system in the country was in disarray in the absence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He suggested that Pakistan should break all the bonds of US slavery. Liaqat Baloch termed the federal budget anti-people and said it had disappointed kissans, workers and traders.
