MANSEHRA: Commissioner, Hazara Division, Zaheerul Islam on Thursday said that the government had been providing equal educational opportunities to girls and more institutions would be constructed in Torghar district.

“I am pleased to see that students have been pursuing education despite walking from distant mountainous terrains,” he was speaking to male and female students of the Government Primary School Shagai.

Zaheerul Islam visited the erstwhile tribal belt, which was notified as a settled district through a presidential order in 2011 to inspect the roads, educational and healthcare infrastructure.“I am here on the orders of the chief minister to ensure the improvement of educational infrastructure, as the district lacks opportunities for higher education following matriculation and intermediate levels,” he said.

The commissioner also visited the Government High School Shagai and pledged to fill the vacant posts of male and female teachers in various schools. He met with ulema, elders, and later heard issues faced by the local tribesmen at an open forum.

“We are still living without proper civic services as many line departments are not fully functional here,” said Obaidullah Khan, the chairman of the Dispute Resolution Committee. He stressed the need to make Rescue 1122 fully operational and suggested that local youths should be appointed to address the staff shortage.

“We lack adequate healthcare services, and the district headquarters hospital, which was scheduled to be completed in 2021, remains incomplete due to a lack of funds,” Khan added.Anwar Dad, the chairman of Madakheil Village Council, said many schools were without teachers.
