Power lines around Lahore Fort to be laid underground

LAHORE:The groundbreaking ceremony for the much-anticipated Walled City of Lahore Authority project ‘Removal of Wires (Underground)’ at the Rim Market side of Lahore Fort was held here on Thursday.

This marked a significant step toward preserving and sustainability of the historic conservation of Taxali area. The event was attended by senior officials, project stakeholders, and members of the local community.

Project Director Tanveer Raza Sahoo provided briefing on the project, highlighting its scope and significance in improving the area’s infrastructure value. The initiative focuses on removing unsightly overhead electrical wires and installing underground utility networks to ensure safer and more efficient infrastructure while maintaining the cultural heritage of the area.

WCLA DG Kamran Lashari described the project as a ‘game-changer’ for the Taxali area. He remarked, ‘This project demonstrates our commitment to integrating heritage conservation with urban development. Undergrounding utilities will restore this historic site's beauty and enhance its sustainability for future generations.’ This project is a key part of WCLA’s broader efforts to promote urban renewal and heritage conservation, setting a new standard for infrastructure projects in historic areas. The WCLA, under the leadership of Kamran Lashari, is committed to ensuring the project is completed efficiently, adhering to the highest standards of quality and cultural preservation.
