ISLAMABAD: Finally there is a good news for qualified national coaches as the Pakistan Sports Board’s (PSB) Governing Board has decided to increase the hiring slab from Rs1 lac to Rs1 million depending on qualification of the particular coach.
Director General PSB Yasir Peerzada told The News that one of the Board members Aisamul Haq Qureshi had been made part of the committee to decide on increasing the monthly slab of qualified local coaches.
“It was long overdue. We pay up to $5,000 to international/foreign coaches but when hiring domestic qualified coaches, we only pay them Rs50,000 which is far less than the required amount. We have decided to increase hiring slab of the local coaches, which will tange from Rs1 lac to Rs1 million depending on that particular coach’s local and international qualification.
Aisamul Qureshi (President PTF) has been made part of the coaches’ hiring committee which will decide on the process and will table a final draft for Board’s approval in the next meeting. Our efforts would be to make the local coaches hiring process in lieu of international standards. Aisam’s inclusion in the committee would help in preparing the realistic draft for the local qualified coaches hiring,” he said.
The 32nd meeting of the PSB Board also decided to give an opportunity to the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) office-bearers to clarify their opposition. PM Advisor on the Ministry for Inter-provincial Coordination (IPC) and President of the Board Rana Sanaullah during the meeting directed the ministry and the PSB to give PBF officials a candid hearing before moving forward as the only effort should be to promote the game and not to create hurdles.
“We would be calling the PBF officials in near future in an effort to find out the realistic solution.” No international body these days is affiliated with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as AIBA (backed by Russian block) and World Boxing are making separate efforts to wrest international status.
World Boxing has gained tremendous response with more than sixty countries have so far confirmed their support for the WB. It is believed that within the next few months, WB will be recognized by the IOC. The hiring of Consultants for the biomechanic lab/doping control and a separate consultant for the High-Performance Centre also came under discussion.
