PESHAWAR: Chief Minister’s Adviser on Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif said Wednesday the identities of those involved in attack on the then Deputy Commissioner of Kurram Javedullah Mehsud could not be disclosed for security concerns.

“The attack on the deputy commissioner was aimed at disrupting the peace agreement and inciting unrest, but it failed,” Barrister Saif said while talking to reporters after appearing in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) for his case.

He added:“ Legal action is being taken against the perpetrators. Some of them have already been arrested, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining culprits. For security reasons, their identities will not be disclosed until all are in custody.”

The adviser reassured that the Kurram peace agreement remained intact, with both parties instructed to surrender weapons and dismantle bunkers by February 15.

“The February 15 deadline has been set for all parties to hand over weapons and demolish bunkers. It is to ensure lasting peace in the Kurram tribal district,” he elaborated.

Barrister Saif emphasized that the agreement, signed by both parties, was being implemented, and practical steps were underway to maintain peace and security in the region.

“The government has played a mediatory role in this agreement, and the process of disarmament is in progress,” he added.

Regarding his appearance in the PHC, Barrister Saif said he had sought an extension of his bail, which was granted.

He criticized the government for allegedly filing baseless cases against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders and workers. “We will contest these cases, and the government will face embarrassment,” he asserted.

Commenting on the deadlock in negotiations between the government and the opposition, Barrister Saif accused the government of employing delaying tactics.

“The government is using stalling strategies to confuse the opposition under the guise of negotiations. However, we are aware of these ploys. Our party leaders will decide on this matter,” he said. He said: “We remain sincere in our negotiations, but the government’s intentions are not genuine. This deadlock will be addressed by the party leadership in due course.”
