PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday suspended a notice issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, seeking details of his assets.
A two-member bench comprising Justice SM Attique Shah and Justice Faheem Wali also issued a notice to the ECP, seeking a response on the matter.
Lawyers Bashir Khan Wazir and Alam Khan represented the chief minister in the court.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsels informed the court that the ECP had previously issued a similar notice, which the court had suspended.
Justice Attique Shah questioned how the ECP could issue another notice when the previous one had already been stayed by the court.
He suggested that the petitioner should have filed a contempt of court petition against the ECP for violating the earlier court order. In response, counsel Bashir Wazir explained that the new notice, dated November 20, differed from the earlier one and summoned the chief minister on fresh grounds.
After hearing the arguments, the court suspended the November 20 notice and directed the ECP to submit its response at the next hearing.
