FAISALABAD: Investigations into the Greece boat tragedy have revealed alleged links between FIA officers stationed at Faisalabad Airport and human traffickers, along with large-scale bribery.
The FIA has concluded an inquiry and registered a case against 18 personnel.
According to the FIR, staff members at Faisalabad Airport had allegedly cooperated with human traffickers in exchange for bribes of Rs25,000 per passenger. These arrangements were reportedly coordinated by Constable Mohammad Shehzad, who had facilitated the departure of four young men—Samiullah, Waqar Ashraf, Waqas Ashraf, and Zeeshan Rafiq—from the airport in exchange for Rs100,000. The deals were allegedly struck at the airport’s canteen between human traffickers and FIA personnel. As a result of the inquiry, the implicated officers have been arrested, and legal action has been initiated. The case was registered at the report of Abdullah, a resident of Pasrur, under six sections of the law.
The investigations revealed that the arrested personnel had received a bribe of Rs100,000 to facilitate the illegal clearance of the four passengers. Meanwhile, agent Qamarul Zaman, alias Khurram Jajja, had reportedly taken Rs2.5 million from Samiullah to arrange his journey to Europe. The case names several individuals, including Inspector Zubair Ashraf, Sub-Inspector Shahid Munir, Shumaila Saleem, Head Constable Rizwan, Adnan, and other personnel, such as Constables Shahid Rehman, Arsalan, Zeeshan, Asif, Zaheerul Hassan, Rashid Taqir, and Muneeb Rehman.
