ISLAMABAD: Former Senate chairman Raza Rabbani has slammed the federal government’s policy on rightsizing and said the policy as per the structural benchmark of the IMF program is going to create joblessness.
“One of the objectives of rightsizing is to significantly reduce lower grade positions. As a consequence, lower grade officers will lose their jobs, “ he said in a statement on Wednesday. He said services like cleaning, plumbing and gardening would be outsourced. This means the employees of Grades 1 to 6 will be made redundant. On the other hand, the federal government has increased the salaries of officers in BPS 20 and above. It is being speculated that in the coming week, the federal government will be expanded while low grade employees are going to lose their jobs and various divisions and ministries are being reduced or closed. “The expansion of the federal cabinet is uncalled for,” he said and suggested that the way forward was that all ministries, institutions and autonomous bodies devolved under the 18th Constitutional Amendment be handed over to provinces.
