MANSEHRA: A man and his wife suffocated to death in the Paras area of Kaghan Valley on Wednesday.

“The elderly couple had lit a leaking cylinder in their room before going to sleep to cope with the severe cold, which caused their deaths. Their bodies were recovered after breaking the door open in the morning,” Tasweer Hussain Shah, the station house officer of the Paras police station, told reporters.

The bodies of Nazir Shah and his wife both in their late 60s were shifted to the Rural Health Centre in Kawai where doctors handed them over to their family after completing medico-legal formalities.

Meanwhile, residents of Tanawal, led by Dr Mohammad Riaz, demanded that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government release funds for carpeting Siri Road to promote tourism in the area.

They stated that the mountainous Siri area is rich in natural beauty, and Chief Minister’s Special Assistant on Tourism and Culture, Zahid Chanzeb, announced the carpeting of the bumpy road last year. However, the project has not yet been initiated.“If funds are released for carpeting this road, tourism will be promoted, and residents will also get employment opportunities,” Riaz said.
