KP CM brought house arrest proposal for Imran: Aleema

RAWALPINDI: Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, has disclosed that Imran Khan was offered house arrest at Bani Gala, and the proposal was brought forward by Ali Amin Gandapur.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday after meeting the PTI founder at Central Jail Rawalpindi on Tuesday, Aleema Khan revealed that offers for deals have been made since the beginning, but no direct contact has occurred.

She said, “My brother has been in jail for a year and a half. If he wanted to strike a backdoor deal, he would have done so already.”

Aleema confirmed that the proposal for house arrest at Bani Gala was indeed conveyed by Ali Amin Gandapur, questioning, “After keeping him in jail for so long, why propose house arrest now?”

She further revealed that Imran Khan was also asked to remain silent and avoid speaking out.

When a journalist enquired whether Gandapur genuinely brought the offer, she responded, “Yes, Ali Amin Gandapur brought it.” Expressing scepticism about the intentions of those involved in negotiations, Aleema emphasised that the PTI founder has consistently made only two demands: the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9 and the release of prisoners.

“Are the PTI founder’s demands unacceptable?” she asked. “A judicial commission should be formed under a senior judge acceptable to all.” Aleema expressed frustration over the lack of progress, adding that repeated calls for the formation of the commission and the release of prisoners have gone unanswered. She also criticised the authorities for not allowing the negotiation committee to meet with the PTI founder.

Highlighting the importance of judicial commissions in democracies governed by the rule of law, Aleema said that Imran Khan has always upheld these principles. She further alleged that individuals within the government’s negotiating team have “stolen our mandate.”

Commenting on the lack of transparency, Aleema remarked, “Nothing is hidden from the ISI anymore. Everyone is talking about deals—some suggesting a three-year silence agreement and others proposing different terms.”

Stressing the need to trust the judiciary, she added, “The PTI founder has demanded the formation of a judicial commission under the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court. If we don’t trust the judiciary, who will we trust?”

Citing the example of the Hamoodur Rahman Commission, Aleema argued that such commissions and their reports remain on record and serve as precedents. “After keeping him in jail for a year and a half, what’s the point of proposing house arrest now?” she questioned. Aleema also shared that her conversation with Imran Khan during the meeting primarily revolved around family matters. She mentioned that Imran fondly recalled Air Commodore Sajjad Haider, describing him as a war hero who stood up to cast his vote. Earlier, Aleema Khan, accompanied by Uzma Khan and their cousin Qasim Zaman, visited the former prime minister at Adiala Jail.
