JHANG: Integrated Reproductive Maternal Newborn, Child Health and Nutrition Programme (IRMNCHNP) District Coordinator Dr Umbreen Sarwar stressed the doctors of the BHUs to ensure discipline for better service delivery.

Addressing a training session for doctors of various BHUs, Umbreen said the male and female MOs were updated about the latest health techniques and NHSP modules. They were also trained in the Outpatient Therapeutic program (OTP) for screening malnourished children from 6 months to 5 years, including anthropometric, biochemical, and clinical assessments using various tools.

The participants were also educated about the stabilisation centre in Peads wards for admitting malnourished children with complications, data analysis, the HMIS EMR app, infant and young child feeding, infection prevention, control of sexual abuse and gender-based violence, as well as family planning methods.

Dr Umbreen highlighted the crucial role of Basic Health Units (BHUs) in providing healthcare to women, children, and the general public, while also alleviating the burden on larger hospitals. She asked the participants of the training session to keep observing the performance of medical staff, including LHVs, LHWs and nutrition supervisors deployed for mother and child health services.
