Three held for refusing to sign Kurram peace deal

One more suspected terrorist was apprehended in connection with attack, bringing total number of arrests to three out of five

PARACHINAR: The authorities in the restive Kurram district have arrested three tribal elders namely Syed Rahman, Saifullah and Karim Khan for their refusal to sign a recently brokered peace agreement, according to the district administration.

The administration said the peace agreement, approved by the Apex Committee and the KP government, must be implemented at all costs to ensure stability in the region. In a related development, cases were registered against protesters who staged a sit-in outside the Parachinar Press Club and blocked a major road.

The administration said that the restoration of transportation routes remained a top priority and warned against any actions that disrupted public movement.

Meanwhile, the law-enforcement agencies personnel continued crackdown on suspects involved in an attack on Kurram Deputy Commissioner, Javedullah Mehsud, in the Bagan area. One more suspected terrorist was apprehended in connection with the attack, bringing the total number of arrests to three out of the five named in the first information report (FIR). Officials said that efforts were underway to locate the remaining suspects and other unidentified attackers. The administration reiterated its commitment to ensuring peace and holding those responsible for violence accountable through thorough investigations and strict enforcement of the law.
