PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) disposed of 336 cases of missing persons during the year 2024 while 58 cases were still pending before the court.
The PHC on Monday released the date about the number of petitions filed by families of missing persons in the province. According to the figures, the court disposed of 336 cases of missing persons last year, while 58 cases were currently pending before the high court.
The report said that of the 58 pending cases, 38 complaints were filed against security agencies, 13 against police, and 7 against the Counter-Terrorism Department. In December alone, the court disposed of 12 cases.
Upon assuming office, PHC Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim had directed all departments to expedite the submission of replies in the cases of missing persons to address the grievances of their families. He had directed relevant agencies to submit timely responses in these cases. To ensure compliance, the court established an Implementation Cell tasked with monitoring and facilitating the submission of responses in all cases.
