Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled Uraan Pakistan, a comprehensive five-year economic plan aimed at revitalising Pakistan's economy. While one must commend the PM for taking steps to address the country's economic challenges, Uraan Pakistan does not seem to have many references to Pakistan's rapidly growing population.
Any progress in the 5Es – exports, environment, energy, equity, and education – risks being undermined by unchecked population growth. Countries like Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Iran have successfully managed to reduce their population growth rates by engaging all stakeholders. Why can't Pakistan do the same?
