A judicial magistrate on Saturday extended police remand of a traffic police officer by two days in a case pertaining to allegedly killing a Suzuki pick-up driver in a road accident.

Shahid Aziz Hingoro was arrested and booked on charges of qatl-e-khata by rash or negligent driving after his speeding car rammed into a Suzuki pick-up in the Clifton area on the night of December 31, resulting in the death of 55-year-old driver Ayub Sethar.

Investigating officer Nadeem Babar produced the suspect before Judicial Magistrate (South) Muzamil Ali Soomro on expiry of his physical remand and requested a 10-day extension in his remand for completion of the investigation. He stated that he had written a letter to the ETO for the provision of record of the suspect's car, adding that he also submitted the suspect's blood sample for an alcohol test, a report of which was yet to be received.

The IO said that he had also submitted a letter for verification of the suspect's driving licence. On the other hand, defence counsel Mehboob Aziz opposed the police's plea for extension of the suspect's remand. However, the magistrate extended the traffic cop's physical remand until Monday.

Meanwhile, the court issued a notice on an application filed by complainant Arbab Ali seeking directives for the IO to collect the blood samples of the suspect for an alcohol test before the court.

The applicant stated that an expired motorcycle licence of the suspect has been produced, requesting the court to call record of his driving licence.
