The Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) was a semi-government organisation, which had the job of constructing industrial factories. It was a very beneficial setup which developed many factories that encouraged exports and cut down imports. Many factories started by the PIDC are still in business. The present government is now seriously trying to increase exports, to build up the country’s ailing economy. But most of our current exports are agricultural products which do not get high returns. We need to build industries that can produce more valuable products. If the PIDC is revived, it can play a big role in starting new industries.
