KARACHI: An inquiry has been initiated by the Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC) into alleged irregularities in the MPhil and PhD programmes offered by the University of Karachi (KU) in Physical Education & Sports Sciences and Physical Therapy.
The inquiry follows a formal complaint filed by Advocate Waqas Ahmad, which raised concerns about violations of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) regulations.
In December 2024, Advocate Waqas Ahmad complained to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Sindh Assembly, alleging that the Department of Health, Physical Education & Sports Sciences at KU was running the MPhil and PhD programmes in direct contravention of HEC guidelines.
The PAC subsequently directed Sindh HEC to investigate the matter and submit a report within two weeks.
Sindh HEC formed a three-member committee to probe the allegations, led by Dr Noman Ahsan, Director General of Sindh HEC, with Dr Tariq Rahim Soomro, Rector of IoBM University, Karachi, and Ms Shahlla Memon, Director of Sindh HEC, as members.
